As with any hobby knowledge of the arena is vital, and model car racing is no exception. This section aims to explain the basics and then develop your sound knowledge into race winning set ups. We have tried to lay out the information in a clear and concise way, if you have any further questions on the subject do not hesitate in asking one of our more experienced racers. Club racing is undoubtedly the best form of practise. Driving up and down your street gives basic car control, but it is no substitute for competitive racing at a club. At a club you can watch the top drivers – see where they position their cars on the track, what lines they take and basically how they drive. Winning is not about going flat out. You have to keep it clean and tidy for five minutes, keeping it clean for one or two laps is not enough, it has to be for the whole five minutes. One factor that plays an important part indoors on a Tuesday is how efficiently you deal with other cars. If you come up on a slower car it is important to pick the right moment to pass and it is important to keep the manoeuvre clean. Don’t worry about sitting behind a slightly slower car for a couple of laps. You can use this time to see where they run wide in corners, or to pressure them into making a mistake. The later point often works! One of the big advantages about racing at a club is that there are others around to speak to and ask advice. Don’t be afraid to approach any of us for advice. Another important point is to enjoy your racing and also enjoy the social side of it. See you at the track! If you have information which you consider will be of interest to other competitors please email it to us for inclusion into the site. |
